What is the origin of sports players wearing black armbands?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 2:08 pm

Sports players will frequently wear black armbands to commemorate the death of a teammate or close colleague – for instance, the Liverpool/Manchester City players are wearing them today in memory of the Motherwell captain who passed away yesterday.

My question(s) are:

(a) Where did the wearing of black armbands first originate? Would I be correct in guessing that it’s something to do with the military?
(b) When was the first recorded instance of sports players wearing black armbands?

The wearing of black armbands is a custom which originated in Ancient Egypt and came to the West through Republican Rome, when the Toga pulla made of dark-coloured wool was worn during periods of mourning. I dont know when it was first used by sportsmen.

Is there is a difference between the sports management and sports administration undergrad major?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 2:38 pm

Some colleges offer sports administration, some offer sports management, and some schools (like Gonzaga) offer both, is there a difference and if so, what is it? THANKS!

Gonzaga’s programs are quite different. The Sport Management major is only for a Bachelor in Education. I’m not sure why they’d teach this through the education school, but I guess this would be fitting for aspiring athletic directors?
The Sport Administration is actually a major for a Master degree.
But that’s Gonzaga.

As for different schools calling majors different things, I don’t think that there is much difference. In my home state, GA Tech offers a "Management" degree with various concentrations. GA State offers a Bachelor of Business "Administration" with separate majors. The terminology of the majors and degrees are different like your "administration" vs. "management," but the course requirements are about 95% the same.

So if you need to compare two bachelor programs at two separate schools, you can probably click through their websites and find the course requirements for each and compare them.

What is the best sports bra to wear for heavy contact sports?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 2:20 pm

I need a heavy duty sports bra for my super active lifestyle (sparring, martial arts). In addition, what specific exercises can I do to reduce the size of my chest? I’m only 5′0 but wear a 32C/D and would like to reduce my size to a more athletic shape and to be able to wear tank tops without spilling out of them!

Get an Enell sports bra. It will hold you in without a doubt. Sometimes I go with a regular bra and a sports bra but I don’t need that with an Enell bra. Trust me, this thing is going to keep you in.

What would happen if major sports were targeted by terrorist?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 5:37 pm

If a terrorist group decided to target America’s sports, what would be the result?

How would this affect our society and the future of sporting events?

That would be the dumbest thing they could ever do. Not only would it piss off the American people in general, think about the odds makers in Las Vegas! I’m mean it’s one thing to have Homeland Security and the US military after you, but the Mafia too? No, no, no. Not a good idea!

What do sports organizations do with premade gear for losing team?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 7:32 pm

Obviously for all that gear to have on spot of winning, sports organizations would have had to of made up gear for both teams, now what do they do with the stuff of the losing teams? (gear= hats, shirts, coats, wine ETC!) (obviously they wouldn’t be wearing a championship hat with their logo on it.) Do they burn it?

i dunno but i wanna buy it!!

How do I become a sports agent with my business degree?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 8:08 pm

I just graduate from college and I want to become a sports agent. I’m having a hard to breaking into the field. Can I get some advice from someone who have an sports agent career?

Firstly, I’m not someone in the sports agent field and I apologize if this isn’t the answer you’re looking for. I’ve just noticed no one has given you an answer in 3 days and wanted to help.

I own a copy of this book, which I find is an excellent resume writing resource, but not only that, it provides excellent insight on how you can change career fields. I highly recommend this to anyone who’s attempting to change fields:

ISBN-13: 978-1563705229

You should be able to acquire a copy from your local library.

Take Care,

What is the most important record in sports history?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 9:19 pm

I, along with most true sports fans have long considered baseball’s homerun record the most hallowed(important) sports record around. Now that all of baseball’s stats have been tainted by steriods (especially Barry Binds and the HR record) what do you think is the most impprtant sports record around?

Most IMPORTANT?

I don’t think any sports record is important.

Which is most IMPRESSIVE? There’s a BIG difference.

The most impressive is the record for MOST record setting career home runs.

When Babe Ruth set the career Home Run Record, it was like 250. When he finished the career record was 714… so basically he hit about 460 record home runs. He was esentially THREE TIMES the home run hitter of anyone that had played the game before him.

In order to match that record, a player would have to hit about 1200 home runs… which will NEVER happen.

Second most impressive? Cy Young’s 511 wins.

Or maybe it’s UCLA’s win streak?

Johnny Van Der Meer’s two consecutive no-hitters? You may not be impressed, but when will ANYBODY throw three in a row and break it?

How important is mental performance in being physically fit for sports activities?

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 9:18 pm

A lot of people have recently taken up various sports as part of living a healthy lifestyle. Part of being physically prepared for sports is being mentally prepared as well. Why do you think mental performance is equally important to being physical fit for sports activities?

I suppose good mental perforamance encompass mental alertness and responsiveness to one’s surrounding environment. It must be essential to have good mental performance when one is engaged in sports activities. This allows the mind to be alert of the environment and the body to respond to any sudden changes effectively.
